Elliott Irving Organick (1925 - 1985) was a computer scientist involved in operating systems development.
Organick participated with Robert (Bob) Barton, C.A.R. Hoare, Edsger Dijkstra, and others in the creation of the Burroughs large systems, the latter described in an ACM monograph of which he was the sole author. He also participated in the development of the Multics system and wrote a monograph about this OS as well.
He was editor of ACM Computing Surveys (ISSN 0360-0300) between 1973 and 1976.
In 1985 he received the SIGCSE Award for Outstanding Contribution to Computer Science Education.[1]
He died on December 21, 1985 after a long battle with leukemia.
He taught at the University of Utah, where a Memorial Lecture series was established in his name.
